Looking for relatives named either Benwich, Benowich, or Banowich. Noticed your name. If you had older relatives from Albany or Hudson, NY who told stories about a family cigar store and someone named Jeanette Dorothy, born in 1889 who may have disappeared from the area with her new husband/boyfriend,
please get in touch.

Thanks.
Dorothy (Named for Jeanette Dorothy "Benwich" Comstock.)

Am searching for relatives, 41 years after the death of a grandmother who claimed her maiden name was Benwich. She leaves behind an illegible birth record which may claim that her name was actually Banowich ( or really Benwich after all) and a mystery. At her funeral we were told she became estranged from her family after her mother learned of her pending marriage and was reported to have said "If you have a baby, I hope it dies." It did. My mother was born 12 years later and had always been told her maternal grandparents were dead.

I had a theory that her family was mad because they may have been Jews and she married a non-Jew, despite her tendancy to embrace Christianity hard. The custom would have been to 'sit shivah' for her, as if she had died.
But later someone told me that this nasty benediction was hurled at young women who became pregnant out of wedlock, so maybe she and my grandfather had 'put the cart before the horse,' so-to-speak, and the great-grandmother thought she was wishing for 'the best' that could happen under the circumstances.

The story about the unkind statement was shared with us at my grandmother's funeral, by someone who had as a child overheard the story being told to a relative by my grandmother on her arrival in Baltimore Maryland.

So this is my reason for approaching you, a total stranger with this unusual last name. The next questions will be just as annoying as all the information I just shared, if you're not the sort of person who cares about mysteries, so I apologize for them in advance, and for bothering you at all.

Are you:
Related to any people named Benwich or Banowich who came from or lived in Hudson or Albany New York?
Do you have an elderly female relative named Lillian who had 2 sisters, one named Jeanette and a baby brother who died young named Benjamin? (This would have been my grandmother Jeanette's baby brother. The poor woman just didn't have any luck when it came to baby boys.)

Yours,
D. Hamilton Sherman

I just tried downloading all of those items and didn't have any trouble. What happens when you are trying to download?

As for sound, a frequent problem is that some media players won't play certain kinds of DVD audio. Give VLC from videolan.org a try, it should play them w/o a problem.
